EDITS: First off! I would like to give a gigantic THANK YOU to synconi and cakecrumbs for suggesting and featuring my work as a Daily Deviation. (I had heard rumors of these rare beasts before, but never did I imagine I would obtain one!)

Secondly, Prints are now available! But with this type of work, it may be more enjoyable in the 3rd Dimension. Thus, I am opening a commission of sorts. I have never done this before, but if anyone is interested in buying origami from me, (not just the jellyfish! I have many other designs! I will even try designing one for you if you are interested!!) just tell me or send me a message! Perhaps I should open up an Etsy?!? Tell me if there is at all any interest in these ideas. We can negotiate prices due to variations in size, paper type, with/without stands and whatnot.

Thirdly, Diagrams are ABOVE!! ^ there. I would LOVE to see everyone's attempts at folding the jellyfish. It will help critique my diagramming as well. Is anything too confusing? Tell me! Send me Pictures!! I love to share pictures of my origami models that other people have folded on my Facebook Page and Tumblr (which unfortunately, there hasn't been much). My tumblr is here, by the way. I forgot to link it above: obeserhino.tumblr.com/

Fourthly, to the best of my knowledge, I am a nice person. A simple hello or comment means a lot! I will try to reply to each one! Ask me questions, post on any of my social media sites. I would love to get to know some people.

This is simply awesome. I quite fond of the style, similar to a simple doodle yet it has that certain something.

"Try designing one" You design origami?! That's amazing! how hard is it to design origami?
This is beautiful! I love it when people make origami art. <3

Yes! I design origami! I spent weeks designing this Jellyfish! Even longer to draw/write the diagrams so others could fold it too!
Here is the story behind this one: linhaiwen.wordpress.com/2012/0…
It has some pictures in it that will show you my prototypes and in-between stages of the jellyfish.
Designing origami with an end in mind and a very clear intent is quite difficult. Folding with experimentation and accidents that evolve into origami models is fairly easy if you've folded for a while! There are so many different ways to go about designing origami! I could write a couple paragraphs if you wanted to learn how or were more interested!! Origami can literally create anything!

I'd love to learn more! :D I've tried making my own models but I end up getting distracted. (short attention span) I've been folding since first grade. I know that date very well because there were a couple of japanese students that were making cranes for everyone, and I was fascinated and have been learning different ones since. (I have flapping and normal crane, dolphin, lily, kabuto, fox face puppet and others memorized... I amuse my family because when we go to restaurants, I take the paper napkin wraps and fold tiny cranes, dolphins, etc. XD; )
Thanks for answering and sorry I took so long to reply. (Been busy!)

Hi! It's great that you're folding other models, because that's where everyone gets started. Try challenging yourself a little; find some more complex models!
I had a conversation with another person on another piece of mine where I discussed how I designed origami, and methods to get started here: obeserhino.deviantart.com/art/…
When I start talking about origami and designing, it becomes pretty lengthy, so I don't want to repeat the whole thing here, but it mainly comes down to fun and experimentation! Like I said above, accepting accidents and experimenting with shapes is a great way to start out.
Are there any specific questions you had? How are you designing your models?

Hey, this is great. That splash really adds character to the work. Even though you used a wire to hold up the Jellyfish, it doesn't take away from the piece at all.

I know the size is perfect for this type of medium, but I could totally see this made from rice paper and made into a gorgeous chandelier.

Thanks! Yes, finding that perfect curve for the wire to incorporate it into the piece was quite the challenge. I do wish I could magically make it float in mid-air though. haha

I can totally see a giant jellyfish chandelier too! But if that were the case, I'd probably modify the design a bit to have a wider cap on top. Perhaps a project for myself in the future!

Good luck to you if you are building a chandelier. It'll definitely be a sight to see.

Thank You! I don't really work much with wire, so bending it into a nice curve was definitely hard; I'm glad you commented on the movement of the piece! (despite it obviously being static. haha.)
